On Thursday 2nd October, Carolyn Gerke will be coming to talk to us about Operation Christmas Shoebox. A huge logistical operation ensures these boxes are shipped in time for Christmas to where they are most needed, in this country or abroad. The effort of all involved is worth it for the pleasure they have brought to countless children since the scheme was set up. Join us at 8.00pm in the Church Centre and find out how you can help for Christmas 2014. To continue on the Christmas theme, please put Saturday 6th December in your diaries – the date of our Christmas Quiz Night. More details soon.

The coming months offer some great opportunities to invite friends and neighbours along to church. We have our Harvest services coming up on 5th October and Remembrance Sunday on 9th November; then, of course there will be all our special Christmas services in December.  So start thinking – who will you invite?

We will be really sorry to say goodbye to Alex when she leaves in October. She is not going anywhere else but it does leave us asking what the future might look like for work with 4-11s. Alex is irreplaceable, so we don’t think God is asking us to look for another Alex. The next person will bring their own abilities and vision to working with young people. There are some obvious parts to it, like working with the excellent local schools alongside Simon, James (the one with the beard) and Andy Spencer (we take assemblies between us as a team). It involves helping to develop the Ark Sunday ministry (where there is a fantastic team). Other than that, the space is open for new, prayerful ideas. The role is flexible. It might be based around term times, or it might be all year. It is for between 25-28 hours a week. There is a pension and the salary has been assessed by the PCC alongside that of a teacher (pro-rata).  It means working with some fantastic people who are devoted to Jesus. Has God been nudging you?  If so, do speak to Simon as it might be that God has a purpose for you in this.

    Memorial Service

    Saturday 8th November at 3.00pm

We shall be holding our annual Memorial Service in November and this is an open invitation to all who may wish to come.

Those who have been bereaved within the last two years will receive a letter of invitation, but we want to spread the net of welcome as widely as possible. We therefore hope that anyone who has been bereaved, however long ago, will feel able to join us for this special occasion. We shall also be delighted to welcome any family members or friends who might like to come with you.  Margot Spencer
